Senior Counsel & Director, Regulatory, S&P, and DTC/E-CommerceMattel, Inc.Maria Daatio Perez has spent the last 10+ years helping companies navigate consumer protection laws and regulations on various “emerging” platforms – from YouTube to social media platforms, virtual reality, and now, the metaverse. She is currently a Director and Senior Counsel at Mattel, overseeing all regulatory legal support and content review across Mattel’s brand portfolio, properties, and products, which includes Barbie, Hot Wheels, Polly Pocket, Uno, Fisher-Price, American Girl, and Masters of the Universe, as well as their licensed properties, as well as leading the legal support for Mattel’s various e-commerce businesses and platforms.
Prior to Mattel, Maria helped launch Oculus Go, Facebook’s first wireless VR headset and helped analyze new markets to sell Facebook’s VR products. Prior to Facebook, Maria kicked off her legal career at Maker Studios and then, Disney, after they acquired Maker Studios, helping shape how multichannel networks can work within the entertainment industry and establishing influencer deal structures. She also worked closely with influencers and third-party brands, executing brand integration deals from the ground up, developing templates and processes, negotiating contracts, creating policies, reviewing creatives, and approving assets before going live with campaigns. |
